Enriching Outings are designed for dogs who need more than exercise alone
This isn't about how far your dog walks
It's about what they experience while they're out
My training as a Certified Canine Behaviourist informs how I observe your dog throughout the outing
I pay close attention to what they choose to investigate, what captures their attention, what helps them settle and what appears to increase or reduce engagement
Those observations help me make decisions about the environment, pace and opportunities I offer your dog, and not just follow the same walking routine every time
Your dog has the full 45 minutes to explore, sniff, investigate and engage with the environment at their own pace
Conducted on a one-to-one basis, Enriching Outings provide opportunities for exploration, engagement and purposeful interaction with the environment
Your dog sets the pace—fast, slow or somewhere in between
With a full 45 minutes dedicated entirely to them, there is time to sniff, investigate and experience the world in a way that supports both physical and mental wellbeing
Unlike many traditional dog walking services, time spent collecting other dogs or travelling in a van is not part of your dog's outing
Their experience begins the moment we leave your front gate
Throughout the outing, your dog remains securely on leash and receives my full attention
Via your private client portal you'll receive outing notifications, behavioural observations, photos, videos and a GPS route map, allowing you to stay connected to your dog's day even when you can't be there
All services are offered on an ongoing weekly basis to ensure consistency, build trust and allow each dog to get the most from their outings
This isn't a standard walk around the block
It's a purposeful experience designed for dogs who thrive on more
Enriching Outing & Instinct Play session

Every dog carries instincts shaped by generations of selective breeding
Instinct Play gives those instincts somewhere safe and purposeful to go
As a Certified Canine Behaviourist, I understand that enrichment isn't just about keeping a dog occupied. The activities I choose are informed by canine behaviour, your dog's individual temperament and the instincts I'm seeing in front of me
That means I can choose activities with a purpose, not just offer a collection of games
Rather than asking your dog to suppress natural drives, I create carefully chosen activities that allow them to express those drives in appropriate ways
Activities may include scent-driven nose work, simulated hunting games, retrieval tasks, herding-inspired activities, foraging opportunities and problem-solving challenges, all carefully selected to align with your dog's natural instincts and interests
The important part isn't the activity itself. It's understanding which activity is appropriate for your dog, why it's appropriate, and how your dog responds to it.
Every Instinct Play session is matched to your dog's evolving interests, preferences and needs. Their participation, engagement and favourite activities are recorded in their personalised report card, allowing you to follow their progress over time.
Through your private client portal, you'll receive notifications when the outing begins and ends, behavioural observations, photos and videos to treasure, a GPS route map of the outing, and a detailed summary of the Instinct Play activities your dog participated in

It's an opportunity for your dog to engage with the instincts, drives and behaviours that have shaped dogs for generations

Enriching Outing & Instinct Play extended session
1h 30 minutes $160 1 dog/$180 2 dogs
This session is an extended version of our standard Enriching Outing & Instinct Play session
It's best suited to dogs who have higher than normal energy levels and need even more
if your dog hasn't been in an enriching outing and instinct play session before, it's best to start with the standard 1h 15 minute session as that may be enough
You can always upgrade to the extended session next time if you need to

As the sole dog handler, I'll always be the person caring for your dog
Building trust takes time, and getting to know each dog's unique personality, preferences and needs means every outing is adjusted to suit exactly what your dog requires
My background in canine behaviour shapes the way I approach every outing. Rather than just exercising dogs, I create experiences that prioritise emotional wellbeing, enrichment and thoughtful handling, while always working at the individual dog's pace. One of the things my clients value most is knowing they have someone to turn to when they have questions about their dog's behaviour. Unlike many dog walking services, working with a certified canine behaviourist means you have someone who can help you better understand your dog. Whether you've noticed a new habit, you're curious about something your dog does or you have a question, I'm always happy to share insights and observations. Helping guardians understand their dogs is one of the most rewarding parts of my work
I use positive reinforcement and fear-free handling because they're both effective and kind. Your dog will never be punished, forced into situations that make them uncomfortable, or rushed through experiences that matter to them. Instead, every outing is carefully planned to help them feel safe, confident and genuinely enjoy their time exploring the world around them.
Many of the dogs I work with are anxious or reactive, which means considered handling is essential. Careful route selection, reading body language and managing the environment help create outings that minimise unnecessary stress while allowing each dog to engage with the world in a way that suits them as an individual
Alongside my work with dogs and their guardians, I write and speak about instinct, purpose and canine fulfilment, exploring how an understanding of what dogs were originally bred to do can help us better understand the dogs who share our lives today
Empire of the Hound exists because I couldn't find the service I needed for my own dog
At the time, I was working long hours in a corporate career while sharing my life with a wonderful dog who was anxious and reactive to other dogs. He needed far more than a quick walk around the block. I wanted someone who would understand him as an individual. Someone who would protect his emotional wellbeing, respect his boundaries and provide experiences that genuinely enriched his life. When I couldn't find that service, I decided to create it
Today, Empire of the Hound provides the kind of care I was searching for all those years ago; professional, instinct-led and built around the individual dog
